Relationship between Symptoms of Adenoid Hypertrophy and Adenoidal Nasopharyngeal Ratio in Children at a Tertiary Hospital

Adenoid hypertrophy (AH) is a common problem in the paediatric age group causing nasal obstruction, snoring, waking up at night, discharge, mouth breathing and decrease hearing. This causes considerable morbidity children along with various sequalae. The adenoidal nasopharyngeal ratio (ANR) an objective method to assess AH calculated using lateral neck x-ray. study assessed relationship between symptoms of ANR. A cross-sectional, hospital-based was conducted ages 2 14 years. History obtained ANR There male preponderance 1.3:1, majority 6 10 years (67.3%). were discharge (81.1%), (79.8%), snoring (76%) hearing (66.3%). largest mean adenoid size 18.20 ± 2.63 mm 6-10 years, while greatest depth 11-14 old (34.50 2.88 mm). maximum 0.71 0.11 2-5 old. All showed statistically significanct high ANR; (p=0.003), night (p=0.001), (p=0.034), (p=0.030). It seen that highest number affected younger where higher. on x-ray (lateral view) correlated well significant AH.
